DIPLOMA IN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT (with Specialization in Social Work)

This program is designed to provide participants with the fundamental principles, theories and practice of community development with particular emphasize on Social work. The participants will be required to apply the principles, theories and techniques covered in the program to real life organizations.

To be awarded the Diploma of Community Development (with specialization in Social Work) participants must complete14 modules that are divided into 2 stages. The completion of all the modules in stage 1 will lead to the award of an Associate Diploma in Community Development while students who complete stages 1 and 2 will be awarded the Diploma of Community Development (with specialization in Social Work).

STAGE 1: The 8 modules for this first stage of the Diploma of Community Development program listed below will lead to the Associate Diploma of Community Development qualification

DOCD1040 Communication Skills

DOCD1050 Resource Mobilization and Fundraising Theory and Practice,

DOCD1080 Community Development Methodology

STAGE 2: The completion of the 8 modules in stage 1 plus the following 6 modules in stage 2 will lead to the award of Diploma of Community Development (with specialization in Social Work).

DOSW2010 Social Work Theory and Practice

DOSW2020 Social Psychology and Human Development

DOSW2030 Social Policy and Administration

DOSW2040 Principles of Counseling and Psychology

DOSW2050 Social Rehabilitation and Reintegration

DOSW2060 Social Work Research Project

This program may be completed in 1 – 2 years depending on the number of modules taken per semester. Each year is divided into 3 semesters and each semester is 13 weeks duration. Students can commence study in the middle of January, March, May or September of every year.

Future prospects
A blend of academic and skills-based disciplines will ensure you develop the social work knowledge needed to prepare you for employment in a variety of organizations. These include the emergency services, local and international NGO’s, relief agencies, Church and church sponsored organizations, private companies and the United Nations Organizations. Graduates are also equipped to pursue study at postgraduate level or undertake specialist professional development.
